National Community Health Center Week is August 6-12.
For over 50 years, Community Health Centers have provided high-quality, affordable, comprehensive primary and preventive health care in our nation’s underserved communities, delivering value to, and having a significant impact on America’s health care system. Health Centers are the healthcare home for 30 million Americans in over 14,000 communities across the nation. One in every twelve people in the United States gets their care in a community health center. Health Centers are a critical element of the health system, serving both rural and urban populations, and often providing the only accessible and dependable source of primary care in their communities. Nationwide, Health Centers serve one in every six residents of rural areas.
National Health Center Week Activities
CommWell Health Giveaways & Educational Materials – Next week, every site will have a table set up with snacks, drinks, and educational material. Every patient that is seen next week will also receive a CommWell Health Sports pack.
Backpack & School Supplies Giveaway – Thanks to Victory United Methodist Church, a few of our sites will be distributing backpacks and school supplies to our school-age patients.
Long Sleeve Shirt & Pant Drive 2023 – CommWell Health is collecting long-sleeve shirts and pants to help protect Agricultural/Farmworkers from pesticide exposure and heat-related illnesses.
Operation Fan Heat Relief – As temperatures begin rising, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Division of Aging and Adult Services is partnering with the N.C. Area Agencies on Aging and local service providers to distribute fans to eligible recipients through Operation Fan Heat Relief May 1–Oct. 31 to help older adults at risk stay safe & cool this summer. Here is a list of local agencies that are distributing fans.
